Despite full board, county continues P & Z interviews

The Fremont County Commission will interview four candidates for the Planning and Zoning Commission during a special work meeting set for 2 p. m. Wednesday, November 7 in the Commissioners Room at the courthouse.

Applying for P & Z are Brad Amen, Jodi Amen, Jeff Harrigfeld, and Peter Young, all from the Ashton area.

There are no vacancies on the current Planning and Zoning Commission. However, the commission is considering creating two new commissions - one for planning and one for zoning.

The Fremont County Planning and Zoning Commission voted against creating two separate commissions after a public hearing on the issue. Testimony at the County Commission’s hearing on the same measure also opposed the split.

Five other people have applied to serve on P & Z, but their interviews have not been scheduled yet, according to the clerk’s office.

Commissioners will do the interviews in a closed door session. The Island Park News has objected to these interviews being done in secrecy, since the paper feels the public has a right to know the views potential candidates have about how they would apply the county’s comprehensive plan and development code. Commissioners have not responded to the paper’s open meeting request.

At 10 a. m. Wednesday, commissioners will review the Coldwater Canyon Subdivision appeal hearing testimony and discuss their recent retreat in Island Park with some county employees.
